With UConn's decisive 3-0 victory over James Madison in Storrs this past Sunday, the Huskies will now host Charlotte in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, December 4 at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at UConnhuskies.com No. 3-seeded Connecticut has reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 11th time in program history and the first since 2007.
UConn has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals after defeating No. 23 Monmouth, 2-1, in the NCAA Second Round on Sunday, November 20 and No. 24 James Madison, 3-0, this past Sunday. Both games were played at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The Huskies will enter Sunday's contest riding a 24-game unbeaten streak at Morrone Stadium dating back to 2009.
Sunday's contest against James Madison was a complete performance by the 2011 UConn squad and was played in front of nearly 5,000 fans. Junior captain Carlos Alvarez notched the game-winning goal and an assist. Senior All-American Tony Cascio also finished with a goal and an assist on the day.
Sophomore All-BIG EAST First Team selection Mamadou Doudou Diouf notched his team-leading 13th goal of the season as well.
The UConn defense was outstanding, setting a Connecticut program record with 16 shutouts on the season. That mark surpasses the 15 set by the 2000 NCAA Championship team.
